Where I love going to and why you should visit Brittany — photographer or not

Discovering Brittany: Have you?

Brittany, in the northwest of France, is a region that captivates photographers, including me. I really have a soft spot for this place! Its landscapes are striking in any weather, from misty windy mornings to golden windy sunsets - the scenery often reminds me of the rugged charm of England and Scotland (of course, not just because it's windy there). Btw, Scotland is actually my favourite country visited so far...

As a photographer based in Prague, Czech Republic, I am drawn to Brittany not only for its natural marvels but mainly for the artistic inspiration it offers in every corner. I love art, you know that already, don´t you?

Why I Love Brittany

The architecture in Brittany is a true delight for the lens (my eyes). Picturesque stone houses, colorful shutters (red, blue are the favourites), and intricate window frames create endless photo opportunities. Quaint towns with timber-framed houses, vibrant small cottages, and charming harbours filled with boats make every street a new visual story. It's like taking pictures in a fairy tale. Walking through winding streets, which are often not crowded at all (quite the opposite), I constantly discover details that are perfect for capturing: from blooming hydrangeas to textured walls that tell a story of time and tradition and little hidden detail-gems, such as gargoyles (you what they are, don't you?!).

The Charm is Pure

Brittany's harbours and coastal villages are particularly photogenic. Boats bobbing in the water, colorful façades reflecting on the harbor, and narrow alleys leading to hidden corners make every visit unique. The region's charming shop windows, full of delightful sweets, fashion, and local crafts, add playful touches to compositions, blending everyday life with artistry. I love what locals produce and present in those shop windows! You just have to go inside and see it all. Because there is much more in there. Getting lost in those towns is my favourite thing to do when on vacation.

A Photographer's Playground

As someone who enjoys extensively taking and editing photos, these elements provide endless possibilities for creative expression. Moreover, you can keep the essence of the place somehow with you. Bacause, lets face it - you will probably have to return home.

Returning

I find myself returning to Brittany over and over again, always exploring new locations and hidden gems. Whether it's spending a day in a sleepy fishing village, chasing the character of medieval towns, or exploring the textures of coastal landscapes, Brittany never fails to inspire. This I can tell you!

For any photographer seeking a combination of raw natural beauty, cultural richness overflow, and endless creative opportunities, Brittany is truly a must-visit destination.
