What gear I use for photography — and why creativity matters more than equipment

■ Category: Behind the Scenes

My Travel Photography Kit — Simple but Effective

If you're curious about the photography equipment I use, the answer is refreshingly simple. I travel light, both literally and creatively.

I mainly shoot with a Nikon D7200 DSLR — it's reliable, sturdy, and has followed me across cities, borders, dusty roads, remote villages, and misty coastlines. It's my constant companion when I travel and shoot, capturing everything from landscapes to quiet street moments.

Alongside that, I use my Xiaomi smartphone — and yes, it delivers some seriously high-quality photos. Honestly, it keeps surprising me with its sharpness, depth, and colors. Some of my most popular photos were taken with it — proving that great photography isn't always about professional gear.

How I Edit My Photos — Mobile + Desktop Workflow

Once the shot is taken, I shift into the second half of my process: photo editing. I use a variety of editing apps — some on my phone, others on my notebook — depending on what the image needs.

  • Sometimes I go for subtle edits: light corrections, a touch of contrast, soft tones.

  • Other times I dive into bold, rich edits: textured layers, experimental colors, cinematic moods.

My style evolves depending on the photo, the destination, and the story I want to tell.

Tip for photographers: Try editing on both mobile and desktop to explore different workflows. Each tool gives you different results.

Why Gear Isn't Everything in Photography

I'll say it clearly:
Photography isn't about the newest gear. It's about your eye, your instinct, your point of view.

That's why my personal slogan is:

"My best lenses wear mascara."

Yes, it's cheeky. But it's also the truth.

It's not about the camera — it's about how you see the world.
The most expensive camera in the world won't make someone a storyteller. But a curious, creative person can make magic with even the simplest tools.

Whether You Use a Phone or a DSLR, You're a Photographer

If you're just starting out or feeling unsure because you "only" have a phone — let this be your reminder:

You don't need to wait until you upgrade your gear.
You just need to start.

Use your phone. Borrow an old camera. Edit with free apps.
The most important lens is your own perspective.
